This site is about my attempt to take part in the world's first rowing race across the Indian Ocean in 2009. The race distance is 3,100 nautical miles and the average crossing distance is estimated to between 65-70 days for those competitors competing in pairs and slightly less at 45-50 days for those competing as part of a team of four. The race sets out from Geraldton in Western Australia and transcends the Indian ocean to the paradise island of Mauritius.



I am aiming to compete in the race and I have established this wiki to follow not only my attempt at competing in this exhilarating event, but also to act as a major resource for those interested in the up and coming sport of Ocean Rowing generally.

Ocean rowing has gone from strength to strength since it was turned into a more accessible sport ten years ago. It is now viewed as 'fashionable' in the world of extreme sports and as such it has received a healthy dose of media coverage.

Teams from all over the world will compete on equal terms in pair and four person teams. The start of the race is planned for April 2009 to miss the cyclone that ends in between February and March.

I will be completing the race as part of a pair. I am presently searching for a suitable partner to undertake this gruelling ordeal with. So if you think you have what it takes to row the Indian ocean then please get in touch. I would love to hear from you.
